Hu Tong is the name for an old alley or lane that belongs only to China. Hu Tongs represent an important cultural element to the city of Beijing, having weaved through neighbourhoods for six dynasties. Melbourne offers its own interpretation of Hu Tongs where laneways weave through the city grid, offering rich art culture, small boutiques, unique galleries, tiny cafés and hidden bars. The word Hu Tong has now become synonymous with cult dumplings in Melbourne.
After 16 years developing successful Chinese restaurants in Melbourne, entrepreneur Jeff Xu has formed hospitality group Hu Tong Group to encompass the company’s eleven hospitality venues including Hu Tong Dumpling Bar (CBD & Prahran), Man Tong Kitchen, East Restaurant situated in the Sheraton Hotel on 27 Lt Collins Street, and Hu Tong Group’s latest project, The Crux and Co.
